CLINICAL ACTIVITIES:
I have an active oral and maxillofacial surgery practice in our AAHC-accredited Oral and Facial Surgery Center. My clinical practice focuses primarily on dentoalveolar surgery, including third molar extractions, dental implant surgery, and bone grafting.
EDUCATIONAL PURSUITS:
I am the Executive Director of Clinical Education for the School of Dentistry predoctoral program. Additionally, as the course chairperson for five of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery's predoctoral courses, I lead my department's efforts to provide comprehensive didactic education and clinical training to every third and fourth year dental student. I also chair the course in Hospital Dentistry for our third year students, and am section leader for the clinical local anesthesia training of our second year dental students, as well as for the oral surgery and implant curriculum for our third and fourth year didactic courses. Additionally, I run several educational programs centered on simulation and standardized patient evaluation for students in the first, second, and third years of dental school at the Kanbar Center. In these roles, I provide formal lectures, small group teaching, and hands-on clinical instruction in oral surgery to dental students and OMFS residents.
I am a member of the Predoctoral Curriculum Committee for the School of Dentistry and have an interest in curriculum development. As a scholar in the 2015-16 Teaching Scholars Program, I am pursuing advanced training to augment my teaching skills and utilize educational theory and scholarship as a basis for curricular change. Finally, I have a personal interest in the mentorship of women, underrepresented minority, and first-generation dental students.
