Dr. Ana Isabel Casal was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. After completing her DDS at Universidad Santa Maria in 2002, she worked in community clinics, her private practice, and taught in the Central University of Venezuela. She moved to the U.S. and lived on the East Coast. She moved to San Francisco in 2009 and successfully completed UCSF's International Dental Program in 2011. Dr. Casal worked in private practice in the Mission for seven years after the program while also working as a part-time faculty member at UCSF teaching in the predoctoral clinics. In 2019 Dr. Casal transitioned to academics, becoming a full-time professor at UCSF. She is currently the course director for the Patient Centered Course 131-134; group practice leader in UCSF Dental Center; and chair of the Student Status Committee for the class of 2024. She also is the faculty advisor for the Social ARC RCO and the Hispanic Student Dental Association, for which she served as the president during her IDP program.
